Three Regions Treat Wounded Veterans to Barbeque

The 8th Annual Wounded Warrior BBQ was held on Sunday, June 26th at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, organized by the Washington D.C. auxiliary and sponsored by the DC, Montgomery County and Northern Virginia regions.

Led by Elizabeth Demaree, DM, this year’s barbeque attracted more than 30 auxiliary, candidates, young volunteers and members of the Order. The Auxiliary Committee served as the logistics team, managing more than 70 Order volunteers in preparing and putting on the event.

More than 650 Wounded Warriors, their families and caregivers were served barbecued steak and chicken, homemade salads, baked potatoes, and drinks, both at the hospital café and in hospital rooms for those who could not leave them.

Musicians on Call and Music Corps delighted and entertained the crowd. Msgr. John Enzler, chaplain to the Board of the Federal Association, spent much of the afternoon listening and talking with many of the military veterans and their families.

The day was an opportunity for us to show our support, give time and thanks to the military.  In return, the appreciation and joy we received was many times greater.
