The Houston Region Makes Thanksgiving a Possibility for 500 Families

On Saturday, November 15, 2014, more than 75 volunteers participated in the monthly Order of Malta Mamie George Food Fair at Catholic Charities in Richmond, Texas.
More than 500 impoverished families received a Thanksgiving turkey and groceries to complete their holiday dinner. The record turnout of recipients began lining up at 6:30 on a cold Saturday morning for the 10 a.m. food fair.
The monthly food fair is coordinated by Knights and Dames Les Hewitt, Mark Hotze, Taffy Hewitt and Cathy Hotze.
The Houston Region of the Order has been coordinating monthly food fair for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for more than four years.
The distribution normally provides groceries for about 400 families. Due to the record crowd, individual members of the Order provided extra turkeys needed to cover the turnout of 500 families.
