HEADLINES:

All of us in Washington are so excited about Pope Francis coming here in September. I’m particularly excited, as the president and CEO of Catholic Charities, as he plans to come to one of our programs after his visit to Congress. During his visit he will bless our clients and many of our vulnerable poor, which will be a very special moment for all of us. His leadership, his challenging homilies and his every day actions, speak of a church that is called to serve the neediest among us. All of us at Malta are called to follow his example and challenge each other to reach out to those in need, particularly, our beloved Malades.

The Archdiocese of Washington is sponsoring a service project entitled #WalkwithFrancis. I’d like to invite the Members of the Order to join us in the special effort. This would be an opportunity for those who don’t live close to Washington to welcome him through your own personal response to those in need in your community. I hope you will say yes. Individuals can choose to complete their pledge in one of the three following areas: prayer/learning, service or action. You will certainly hear much more about this in the weeks ahead.  I’d ask you all to consider taking the pledge and joining in celebrating the Holy Father’s trip to our Capital city.
