Knights, Dames, Auxiliary and other volunteers converged on a home in Northeast DC on April 25 as part of national Rebuilding Together Day.

The homeowners served were a very nice elderly couple in frail health whose home and quality of life were suffering from lack of maintenance. The 1950s-era row house had significant issues, the most difficult being the living room ceiling, which had collapsed from water damage from a bath above, leaving exposed joists and electrical wiring.

An advance team of Jim Bowe, Tim Demaree, Dennis DuFour, Tom Gaspard and Jim Johnson came in during the two weeks prior to the big day to do electrical, plumbing, and drywall work. With major issues resolved, two teams came together to finish the job on the assigned Saturday.  The morning team of 15 prepped the walls and ceilings, cleaning, removing loose paint, taping, and caulking.  The afternoon team of 15 applied two fresh coats of paint to everything, to leave the home sparkling in its new shade of antique white. The photo captures members of both teams as they met together for lunch.
