Prison Ministry Convention Highlights Expanding Apostolate

The Prison Ministry Apostolate, which includes members of the Federal Association’s prison ministry leadership, convened in Toronto in June on the feast of our patron, St. John the Baptist, joined by the Canadian Association at Mass and later at dinner. Mass was celebrated  by Cardinal Thomas C. Collins, archbishop of Toronto.

At the formal board meeting of the North American Prison Ministry Apostolate, Members discussed the variety of work being done.

Members of the Federal Association described rehabilitation programs for recently released.  A member of the Western Association told of the many hours of service at San Quentin Prison, including the arrangement of family visits and on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

In one final example, a Member from Florida talked about a partnership with students of Barry University in Miami to produce a directory of the many national and Florida-based companies with programs for hiring ex-felons. This directory is distributed to all the prisons in Florida.

These are but three examples of the Prison Ministry Apostolate’s work in three very different parts of the country.
