Last month 40 teams of Men Who Cook volunteered to prepare a meal for 400 guests as a fundraiser for the Family House in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Family House is a 58-bed home for people undergoing cancer treatment at local cancer hospitals in Winston-Salem. This home away from home is free for those in need. Others pay $38 per day per room, with meals provided by such organizations as the Order of Malta.
The Men Who Cook teams raised more than $150,000 during the evening event, held at the Bridger Field House at Wake Forest University. Rob Rose and Jim Lentz represented the Order of Malta.
Rob Rose used a recipe obtained from his grandmother who came from the far north of Scotland and who may have added some Viking ingredients added a decade or two ago. It consisted of Brussels sprouts, cleaned, seasoned with 10 special ingredients, roasted at 425 degrees and gently tossed.
