Members Put on Thanksgiving for Fisher House IV Patients
Members in the Montgomery County region served Thanksgiving dinner at Fisher House IV on the campus of the Walter Reed National Military Center. It was a way of personally giving thanks to more than 60 of our military and their families for their service to our country. Brigade Chaplain Assistant David Ribar opened the gathering with a prayer.
Our Federal Association group included: Ed Reilly, KM, who generously donated four cooked turkeys and gravy, Tom Gaspard, KM, Mary Ellen Gaspard, Ray Puskar, KM, Melina Anschutz, Robert Powers, Jim Anschutz, Joan Glasgow, DM, Anne Blum, DM, Lisa Charles, Bennett Solberg, Jun Dimayuga, and Regina Blasic. Our volunteers filled out the menu with home-cooked sides of scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry and wonderful desserts.
Fisher House provides lodging and care to military personnel receiving cancer treatment, having surgery, or otherwise needing medical care but without being admitted to the hospital. The health challenges run the gamut from treatable to seriously ill. Fisher House also provides for family members to stay with their loved ones being treated.
As we put on a meal each month at Fisher House, we listen, encourage and pray for all who cross our path there, and they in turn touch us with their bravery and strength.
