Lafayette Holds Family Lenten Reflection

For 2025, our Lafayette Region re-envisioned its annual Lenten Reflection to include children and grandchildren.  Some of our members and almost all our new candidates are mid-career with school-age children.  Other members and one candidate have numerous grandchildren.  Our goal was to create a reflection that included these family members as we work to build a spiritual community in our region.  The result exceeded all expectations.

On March 30th, over 40 members, candidates, children and grandchildren gathered in St. Mary church parish hall.  Chaplain Brian Harrington led a brief group discussion on Lenten penance, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, engaging the younger attendees.  Marla David followed with a presentation of the long Catholic tradition of painting Easter eggs that dates back 1600 years.  Then it was time to paint Easter eggs.  Order of Malta t-shirts left over from our rebuilding program were given out to protect clothing and the painting began.  The result was fun and exciting for all, with cookies and other refreshments to enjoy as these creative and uniquely beautiful eggs were completed.  Our Lafayette Region gathered in community as our families, young and not-so-young, came together for prayer and fun.
