The Federal Association’s Jacksonville, Florida region hosted a special dinner with entertainment for the residents of San Jose Manor, which is one of three low-income housing facilities sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine.

Involvement with the Order dates back to the founding of San Jose Manor by one of our Knights, the late Hobart Joost. His widow, Rita Joost, has remained an active volunteer with San Jose Manor. Additional history illustrating the importance of this housing development for the elderly residents includes the good work done by Pat Thornton, KM, who developed the second phase of San Jose Manor. He continues to lead our volunteer and support activities for the three facilities which provide quality housing and programs for more than 325 residents.

On May 21, 2015, 42 Knights and Dames of Malta, spouses and volunteers hosted an evening of fun at San Jose Manor. “This type of event really brings the ‘outside in’ for the elderly. It improves the quality of life and well-being for those without the means or transportation to enjoy everyday activities so many of us take for granted – like dinner and dancing,” said Pat Thornton, KM.
