Greensboro Region Opens Door to Jubilee Year of Mercy
With Pope Francis’ announcement of a Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are each called to focus on the Catholic Church's mission to be a witness of mercy. On January 2 Saint Pius X in Greensboro, NC started 2016 by opening the Door of Mercy at the church. Bishop Emeritus William Curlin, who opened the doors, joined Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio in celebrating this joyous occasion and were accompanied by Knights and Dames from the Greensboro region.
Among those participating were Al Abram, Chuck Cornelio, Gary Fly, Bill Lawler, Susan Melvin, Derek Ritzel, Malcolm Stark, and Bob Scheppegrell. In his homily, Bishop Curlin encouraged people to open their hearts to Jesus during this Jubilee Year, saying: “My heart expands when I go through that door and suddenly I see Jesus all around me. I see him in the poor, I see him in others who are lonely.”
St. Pius X Church is one of three pilgrimage sites in the Diocese of Charlotte for the Jubilee Year of Mercy, which continues until November 20.
