Federal Association Marks 20 years of Home Repair Programs in Louisiana
Since the 2016 catastrophic flooding in Acadiana, the Lafayette Region has partnered with Catholic Charities of Acadiana (CCA) and Rebuilding Together Acadiana (RTA) to rebuild one or more homes in South Louisiana each year, which have been damaged by hurricanes and flooding. This year’s rebuilding week is currently underway with knights and dames arriving from Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and volunteers from California. This year the Federal Association marks 20 years of home rebuilding in Louisiana, which efforts began in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The participants in the Lafayette project follow the same agenda each year – they pray together, attend mass together, serve Our Lords the Poor and Sick together, and break bread each evening together. Truly the “ora et labora” of our beautiful Catholic tradition of prayer and labor for the greater glory of God. A more detailed recap of this signature project of the Federal Association and Lafayette Region will be provided soon.
