Defense of Faith Program in Lancaster

In May, the Lancaster Region sponsored a Defense of the Faith program, presented by Joseph Pearce, based on his book “Heroes of the Catholic Reformation – Saints Who Renewed the Church.” 

Mr. Pearce framed his talk within the context of the chaos occasioned by the 16^th-century Protestant Reformation as it was aided by certain governments in its challenge to Catholicism. Despite this crisis, he said, great saints arose who would embody the everlasting truths and ideals of the Catholic Church.

Outlining the work of such people as Robert Bellarmine, John Fisher, Thomas More, and Theresa of Avila, he described the bracing clarity and beauty of their example to their fellow Catholics, showing that, even in its darkest hour, Christ's Church continued to flower as the Body of Christ.
