Bishop Confirms Inmates Instructed by Malta Volunteers
Bishop Peter J. Jugis of the Diocese of Charlotte recently confirmed 10 inmates who had received instruction in the Catholic faith from volunteers with the Order of Malta prison ministry program at the Winston-Salem Federal Prison.
The inmates, who came primarily from Mexico and Central America, had prepared for their Confirmation with six months of instruction through local the prison ministry program under the leadership of Deacon Bob Desautels.
One of the inmates who could not attend the Confirmation because of an infirmity was brought to the chapel afterward and given a private Confirmation with background songs and guitar music. He was then given the blessing of the sick and anointed with the holy oils, in a very touching and holy moment for all present.
